In March, despite the sudden coronavirus lockdown, I decided to go ahead with the long-planned launching of Improvised Life’s new donation platform. I made no announcement, commentary or ask, other than a “Be A Friend” link on the menu. I wanted readers to feel no pressure determining if and what they were able to give during that dire time.

Wonderful things happened: a surprising number of readers made donations. Funds coming in to pay for Improvised Life’s many expenses has been deeply heartening.

But what has been equally powerful fuel were comments readers included with their donations. Here are just a few:

This page has been not only a place of inspiration but a refuge from an increasingly crazy world. I come here, I look, I browse, I breathe, I sigh, and then I am able to go back to the everyday world with fresh eyes. Thank you for making this incredible resource…

Your world opens doors for me. So many thanks

Thank you for this lovely, thoughtful site that gives me a daily reminder to pause, be thoughtful and explore my creative side.

In a world with more of the same, you bring us some of the inspiring, unusual, remarkable, unique. Deep gratitude!

Sally, your ideas and inspirations have enriched my life in subtle but important ways. I am always happy to support Improvised Life.

After a decade of writing Improvised Life, it is beyond wonderful to feel the support of its community. I am very grateful.

After a year of transition, here’s where we are now:

  • Improvised Life remains a labor of love. Looking for more flow and less rigid scheduling in my life, I am publishing twice weekly, with additional posts as I am able, a frequency many readers have said is plenty in our age of over-saturation.
  • I am looking forward to publishing posts by guest writers, including the beloved S.B. Dworski, who has a big presence in the archive.
  • Expenses remain way higher than the early days, due to Improvised Life’s massive size and complexity, and the practice of every app and service to charge for its use.

Your pledging a monthly amount, however small, combines with others’ to guarantee Improvised Life’s nut is covered. It ensures that Improvised Life can continue to live in the world (without ads or sponsored posts.)

Please consider donating via our super easy, secure payment platform. As little as $3 a month goes a remarkably long way…
